I am looking for any pre-1558 references to Jacobs in the Whitstable area. I am posting many manuscripts which give much information on a number of families named in this forum on a site of mine: http://www.myjacobfamily.com .

Go to historical manuscripts. From memory there is 17th century Rigden material there for example.

The best thing to do is have a search at Canterbury Cathedral Archives for anything that early. Whitstable Historian Wallace Harvey’s collection has been catologued and on this site you can do key word searches

Good luck

Hi Suzannah,

Thanks for the information. I have been using CKS Canterbury and Maidstone for 30 years or so, and how useful they are. A2A as well, although it is a shame they have ceased functioning, that is they are not taking in new material. What’s up there, will remain there – so I have been told.

No, it’s through Forums such as this that I have come across some gems in my research.

Cheers,

Kenneth

hello, im seeking help with my boughton/faversham and possibly whitstable jacob/s ancestors. my gggg grandfather was james jacob b 1802ish in boughton, then moved to faversham where the family mostly remained. his occupation was a coal labourer,on the 1871 he was a pauper in faversham workhouse. im trying to find out his wifes maiden name, her forenames were mary ann b1797ish in kent.

there is another james jacob born around same time in boughton, a cordwainer who married catherine, this one isnt mine. my james known children were james, mary(my ggg grandmother),thomas and richard. it has been suggested to me that he had another son william, b1828,boughton who then worked on faversham creek before moving to whitstable and worked as a fisherman. this son was a bit of a revelation as theres no other evidence of seafaring on my dads side.

i was wondering if anyone can help me confirm whether or not william was my james son. any other info on this jacob family would be very welcome, many thanks, lee.

Hi Lee

I dont have an account on Genesreunited anymore. I got fed up with people copying everything word for word, even my mistakes, without crediting me. So now, if anyone contacts me for Whitstable ancestry I ask them to use the Oyster Town
site
