Payton , Sell and Rigden families

My great-grandfather was Richard Payton bc1836 in Canterbury St Stephens. By 1851 he was in Whitstable and was a mariner. in 1863 he married Ann Sell and they had five children : Alice Elizabeth Charlotte b1866 who married John Leman in March 1888 and died Dec1888, William John Richard b1869 who I cannot trace after the 1871 census, Annie b1876 who married William John Richards in 1900, George Richard b1883 (my grandfather) who married Nellie Rigden in 1907, and Fred b1881 who married Alice Rose Luckhurst in 1902. By 1891 Richard was a master mariner.
I also have a photograph of an elderly lady (I don’t know whether she was a Rigden or a Payton) which was taken by Valentine Photographers Harbour Street, Whitstable.Does anyone have any idea when they were in business?
I believe that my grandfather George Richard Payton was a mariner and also a diver – does anyone know where I can find out more about the early Whitstable divers?
