Here are some examples of the pictures now being processed from the original negatives belonging to the newspaper. For web use the versions you see here have been compressed and resized from masters that have been saved and catalogued.

Imagine these pictures three times the size shown here and uncompressed, together with the issue number, date, and details of the people, place and event. This gives you some idea of the project's objectives as it becomes a valuable resource for the town, historians and family history researchers.
Some pictures are easier to place. For instance, the following, is of schoolchildren circa 1973 at Westmeads School in Cromwell Road. In the background are the Freemasons Hall and Mrs. and Mrs. Johnsons house/shop. They had retired by then and were renting out the shop to I.H.Baker - TV Engineer.

This is another project without a time-scale, being very dependant on resources and time. Some of the original negatives are on 35mm film which is easier to scan then the majority that are on single 120 film. The pictures shown here were in fact captured using a lightbox and high quality digital camera set up for the purpose. If anyone locally has a negative scanner capable of dealing with 120 film then we would be very interested.
